Golf Cart Questions About Buying New or Used
Should I buy a new or used golf cart?
New carts offer the latest features, a clean history and, on many models, manufacturer warranty coverage. Used carts cost less and proven platforms such as the EZGO TXT, Club Car DS and Yamaha Drive2 are easy to find parts for. If budget is the priority, used is often the smart choice; if you want lithium power and modern tech, new is hard to beat.
What brands do you carry?
New carts from Denago, ICON, Epic, Edge EV, Tara, Verdi, NIU, Teko and Trailmaster, and used carts from EZGO, Club Car and Yamaha, plus Coco mini trucks. Inventory changes, so check the shop for what is available now.
How many seats do I need?
Two seats suit golf and utility work. Four seats, usually with a rear flip seat, are the most popular all-around choice. Six seats carry larger families and groups but need more storage space. Our 4 vs 6 passenger guide covers the trade-offs.
Do I need a lifted golf cart?
If you drive on grass, gravel, dirt or uneven ground, a lift kit and all-terrain tires add clearance and traction. For paved paths and neighborhoods, a standard-height cart rides more smoothly and is easier to step into.
What should I check on a used cart?
Look at battery age and condition on electric carts, service history and idle on gas carts, the frame for rust or cracks, steering, brakes, tires and every light. Our used golf cart checklist walks through each step.
Can I test drive before buying?
Yes. Visits are by appointment in Northeast Ohio. Call or text (330) 752-8570 to schedule a time.
What are custom builds?
Custom builds are pre-owned carts, often EZGO RXV or TXT models, refreshed with items such as new paint, seats, wheels, tires, roofs, windshields and lighting. Ask what was replaced on any build you are considering.
Golf Cart Questions About Power and Batteries
Power type is the decision that shapes everything else, so it is no surprise that many golf cart questions start here. Carts come in three main types: gas, 48V lead-acid electric and lithium electric.
| Lithium | 48V lead-acid | Gas | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Higher | Lower | Varies |
| Routine upkeep | Minimal, no watering | Regular watering and cleaning | Oil, filters, spark plug |
| Refuel or recharge | Plug in | Plug in | Fill the tank |
| Noise | Quiet | Quiet | Engine noise |
Range and charging time depend on the battery size, terrain, load, speed and temperature, so ask us for the details on a specific model. For more depth, read our gas vs electric guide and our lithium battery guide. The U.S. Department of Energy also offers general battery and EV information at energy.gov.
More Golf Cart Questions About Batteries
Is lithium worth the extra cost?
For many owners, yes. Lithium packs need no watering, weigh less than lead-acid packs and deliver steady power through the charge. Lead-acid still makes sense when the lowest purchase price matters most.
Do lithium carts come with a charger?
Many of our new lithium carts have an onboard charger, so you simply plug the cart into a standard outlet. Confirm the charging setup on the specific listing or ask us.
When should I choose a gas cart?
Gas suits long days, large properties, hunting land and places where charging is inconvenient, because you can refuel in minutes.
How long do lead-acid batteries last?
It depends heavily on care, charging habits and use. Regular watering, full charges and proper winter storage extend battery life. On a used cart, always ask for the battery age.
Can I convert a lead-acid cart to lithium?
Many popular carts can be converted, and some of our used carts, such as certain Club Car DS and EZGO TXT models, are already listed with lithium power. Ask us about specific carts.
How far can an electric cart go on a charge?
Range varies with battery capacity, hills, passengers, speed and weather. Ask for the full spec sheet on any model you are considering.
Golf Cart Questions About Prices and Financing
Price is one of the most common golf cart questions, and the honest answer is that it depends on a handful of factors. Our current inventory ranges from roughly $2,200 for basic used carts to around $14,000 for new, fully loaded six-passenger lithium models.
What affects the price of a golf cart?
- New versus used, and the model year
- Power type: lithium usually costs more upfront
- Number of seats
- Equipment such as lift kits, touchscreens, sound bars and premium seats
- On used carts, battery age, condition and service history
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing is available with approved credit through our lending partners. Some new models carry promotional offers from the lender or manufacturer, but terms change, so ask about current offers. Our financing page and our post on how to finance a golf cart answer more financing-related golf cart questions.
Is the listed price the final price?
The listed price is the cart’s asking price. Delivery, if needed, is quoted separately. Ask us for a full breakdown before you buy so there are no surprises.
Golf Cart Questions About Trade-Ins
Trade-ins prompt plenty of golf cart questions too. Trade-ins are welcome, and they can lower the amount you pay or finance on your next cart. The more detail you share, the more accurate your value will be.
What should I send for a trade-in value?
- Brand, model and year if known
- Gas, lead-acid electric or lithium
- Battery age on electric carts, or hours and service history on gas carts
- Upgrades and any known issues
- Clear photos from every side, plus the seats and battery or engine area
Is the trade-in value final?
Values given from photos are confirmed once we see the cart in person. Start on our trade-in page or text photos to (330) 752-8570.
Street-Legal Golf Cart Questions in Ohio
Road use raises more golf cart questions than almost any other topic, and the rules deserve care. Whether you can drive a cart on public roads depends on how the vehicle is classified and on state and local rules.
What is the difference between a golf cart and an LSV?
A low-speed vehicle, or LSV, is a federally defined vehicle class with its own equipment requirements, such as lights, mirrors and seat belts. NHTSA sets the federal safety standards for LSVs. A standard golf cart is not automatically an LSV, even if it has some of the same equipment.
Can I drive my cart on the street in Ohio?
It depends on the vehicle and where you live. Titling and registration questions go through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and cities, villages and townships may set their own rules about where carts can be driven. Always confirm with those offices before driving on a public road.
Do you sell street-legal carts?
Some of our new models are listed as street legal, and many include lights, turn signals, mirrors, seat belts and a horn. Browse street-legal golf carts and read our Ohio street-legal guide.
Delivery and Warranty Questions
Delivery and warranty coverage round out the golf cart questions we answer every week.
Do you deliver?
Local delivery is available, and delivery farther away can be quoted on request. Send your town or ZIP code for a quote. You are also welcome to pick up the cart yourself; just confirm your trailer size first. See our shipping and delivery page.
Do new carts come with a warranty?
Many new carts carry manufacturer warranties. For example, some Denago listings include a two-year cart warranty and an eight-year battery warranty. Coverage varies by brand and model, so ask about the exact cart. Details are on our warranty page, and you can read more about Denago at denagoev.com.
Do used carts have a warranty?
Used cart coverage depends on the individual cart. Ask about any specific cart before you buy, and review our return policy and terms and conditions.
Golf Cart Questions About Ownership and Care
How do I store my cart for an Ohio winter?
Keep it in a dry garage or under a fitted cover, follow the maker’s storage guidance for your battery type, add fuel stabilizer to gas carts and check tire pressure in spring.
How often should I service my cart?
Follow the manufacturer’s schedule. As a general habit, check tire pressure, brakes, steering and lights regularly, water lead-acid batteries as needed and change oil on gas carts at the recommended interval.
How do I charge an electric cart?
Use the charger supplied or specified for your cart and battery type. Many new lithium carts have onboard chargers that plug into a standard outlet.
Can I add accessories later?
Often, yes. Items such as seat belts, enclosures, sound bars and storage can be added to many carts. Ask us what fits your model.
Where can I learn more about maintenance?
Read our golf cart maintenance guide for a season-by-season routine.
Should seat belts be used on a golf cart?
When your cart has seat belts, it is a good habit for everyone to wear them, and they are part of the required equipment for LSVs.
Golf Cart Questions First-Time Buyers Ask
First-time buyers tend to ask the same handful of golf cart questions, and they are good ones. Here are the short answers.
Is a golf cart hard to drive?
No. Most carts have a simple forward and reverse selector, an accelerator and a brake pedal. Newer models may add push-button or keyless start and an electronic park brake. A short test drive is usually enough to feel comfortable.
Where will I keep it?
Measure your garage, shed or carport before you shop, especially for six-seat carts or models with extended roofs and lift kits. Electric carts also need a nearby outlet for charging.
What will it cost to own?
Beyond the purchase price, plan for charging or fuel, routine maintenance, eventual battery replacement on lead-acid carts, a cover or enclosure and any insurance you choose to carry. Lithium carts typically reduce routine battery upkeep.
Can my kids drive it?
Rules on who may operate a cart vary by location, campground and community. Check local ordinances and property rules, and always follow the manufacturer’s safety guidance.
Golf Cart Questions About Where You Will Drive
Many golf cart questions come back to one thing: the ground under your wheels. The right cart for a paved lake community is not always the right cart for a hilly farm.
- Paved paths and neighborhoods: standard-height carts with street tires ride smoothly. Lights, signals and seat belts are worth having.
- Campgrounds: quiet electric or lithium four-seaters with a rear flip seat and cooler insert are popular.
- Farms and large properties: lifted carts with all-terrain tires, and gas or a larger lithium pack for long distances.
- Golf courses: two-seat carts remain simple and affordable; check course rules on private carts.
Answering these golf cart questions early narrows your search quickly. Browse by category, such as lifted golf carts, 4-passenger golf carts or 2-passenger golf carts, to see options that match.
How We Answer Your Questions
We aim to answer golf cart questions the same way we would want them answered: plainly, accurately and without pressure. If we do not know a detail about a specific cart, we will say so and find out, or send you the full spec sheet rather than guess.
That approach matters most on the biggest golf cart questions, such as choosing between lithium and lead-acid or deciding whether a used cart’s batteries are worth the price. Ask as many questions as you need. The right cart is worth a few extra minutes of conversation.

Tips for Researching Golf Carts
Good research saves time and money. Before you shop, write down your answers to a few basic golf cart questions: where you will drive, how many people will ride, how far you travel in a typical day and how much upkeep you are willing to do.
Next, compare two or three carts that fit those answers. Look at total value, not just price: batteries, chargers, lights, seat belts, warranty and delivery all matter. Manufacturer websites such as Club Car, EZGO and Yamaha Golf-Car are useful for background on their model lines.
Finally, read our guide to the best golf cart brands and browse our blog for more buying advice.
