How Our Golf Cart Return Policy Works

Golf cart return policy note: This policy is provided for general information and should be reviewed by a qualified attorney before launch.

This golf cart return policy (our “Golf Cart Return Policy”) explains what happens if you need to cancel an order, change your mind, receive a cart with a problem, or return a part or accessory bought from Custom Carts. We are a golf cart dealer in Northeast Ohio, and we want every customer to feel treated fairly, even when plans change.

A golf cart is not a small parcel that can be dropped in the mail. Carts are large vehicles, orders are usually confirmed by phone, deposits may be taken online, and delivery or pickup is scheduled after the sale. Once a cart has been held, prepared, titled, or delivered for you, it cannot simply be put back on the shelf. This Golf Cart Return Policy is designed around those realities while protecting you if something goes wrong.

The short version

  • Cancel before we confirm your order, and your deposit is refunded in full.
  • After confirmation, deposit refunds depend on how far your order has progressed.
  • Inspect your cart at delivery or pickup and note any visible damage before signing.
  • New carts are backed by the manufacturer’s warranty. Used carts are sold as is unless we give you a written warranty.
  • Unused parts and accessories in original packaging can usually be returned within 30 days.
  • Approved refunds go back to your original payment method.

This Golf Cart Return Policy is part of our Terms and Conditions. If the two ever conflict on a return or refund question, this Golf Cart Return Policy controls.

Deposits Under Our Golf Cart Return Policy

Deposits are the part of our Golf Cart Return Policy customers ask about most. Many customers place a deposit online or by phone to hold a specific cart while we confirm the details. Your deposit is always applied to the purchase price. How a deposit is treated if you cancel depends on the stage of your order.

Stage of your orderWhat happens to your deposit
Before we confirm your order by phone or in writingFull refund.
After confirmation, cart in stock and not yet preparedRefund, minus any payment processing costs we cannot recover, if you cancel within 3 business days of confirmation.
Cart ordered from a manufacturer, customized, or accessories installed for youMay be non-refundable, up to the amount stated when you confirmed your order, to cover costs we cannot recover.
We cancel for any reasonFull refund.

Under this Golf Cart Return Policy, we will always tell you during your confirmation call whether any part of your deposit is non-refundable, and how much. Nothing becomes non-refundable without your knowledge. If you are unsure about a purchase, simply wait to confirm until you are ready. Holding off costs you nothing.

If your plans change

Life happens. If you need to cancel or delay a purchase after confirming, call us at (330) 752-8570 as soon as possible. Depending on the situation, we may be able to move your deposit to a different cart, delay your delivery date, or reduce what is kept. This Golf Cart Return Policy sets the minimum we will do, not the limit of our goodwill.

Cancelling a Golf Cart Order

Under our Golf Cart Return Policy, you may cancel any order before delivery or pickup. How you cancel matters, because we need a clear record so we can process your refund quickly.

How to cancel

  1. Call or text (330) 752-8570, or email info@customcarts.com with your name and order number.
  2. We will confirm the cancellation in writing and tell you what, if anything, will be kept from your deposit under this Golf Cart Return Policy.
  3. Any refund is issued to your original payment method.

Please do not reply to automated messages from no-reply@customcarts.com, because that inbox is not monitored.

Financed purchases

If you financed your cart through one of our third-party lenders, cancelling the purchase may also require the lender to cancel or adjust your loan. We will work with the lender for you, but the lender’s own terms apply to the loan itself. Our Golf Cart Return Policy covers what Custom Carts refunds, not the lender’s fees or rules. See our financing page for more.

Trade-ins on cancelled orders

If you traded in a cart and then cancel before delivery, we will return your trade-in cart, or its agreed value if it has already been resold, as agreed in your paperwork.

New Golf Carts and Manufacturer Warranties

New golf carts cannot be returned once they have been delivered, titled, or registered in your name, because they are then legally used vehicles. That does not leave you on your own. Under this Golf Cart Return Policy, new carts are protected by the manufacturer’s written warranty, and we help you use it.

  • Coverage: many new carts carry manufacturer warranties. For example, some Denago models include a 2-year cart warranty and an 8-year battery warranty. Coverage varies by brand and model, so ask for the exact terms.
  • Defects: if a new cart has a defect covered by the warranty, the manufacturer’s remedy is repair or replacement of the covered part, handled through us or an authorized service provider.
  • Registration: we can register the warranty in your name so you receive coverage and recall notices.

Read more on our warranty page or visit the manufacturer, such as Denago EV. You can check vehicle safety recalls with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Used Golf Carts Sold As Is

Used carts are a great value, and we inspect each one before listing. However, unless we give you a written warranty for a specific cart, used carts are sold “as is,” without any warranty from Custom Carts. This Golf Cart Return Policy treats used carts differently from new carts for that reason.

As is means you accept the cart in its current condition, including normal wear for its age. It does not mean we can misrepresent the cart. If we told you something specific about a used cart that turns out to be materially untrue, such as the battery type, model year, or a working feature, contact us and we will make it right.

Protect yourself before you buy

  • Inspect the cart in person or ask for extra photos and a video.
  • Ask about battery age, charger, and service history.
  • Test drive when possible.
  • Use our used golf cart checklist.

Any remaining manufacturer warranty on a used cart may transfer to you, depending on the manufacturer’s rules.

Inspection at Delivery or Pickup

The most important step in our Golf Cart Return Policy happens the day your cart arrives. A careful inspection at delivery or pickup protects you and makes any claim quick and simple.

What to check

  • Body panels, roof, windshield, and seats for scratches, cracks, or dents.
  • Tires, wheels, lights, mirrors, and accessories you ordered.
  • That the cart powers on, drives forward and in reverse, and brakes properly.
  • Charger, keys, owner’s manual, and any paperwork included with your cart.
  • That the model, color, and options match your order.

Record any issue

Note any visible damage or missing item on the delivery paperwork before you sign, and take clear photos. If you pick up the cart yourself, inspect it before it is loaded onto your trailer. Once the cart is signed for or loaded, it is treated as received in good visible condition.

If you cannot inspect at delivery because of weather or darkness, write “not inspected” on the paperwork and check the cart within 24 hours. Our shipping and delivery page explains how delivery is scheduled.

Damage Claims and Hidden Problems

Even with careful handling, problems can happen. Our Golf Cart Return Policy gives you a clear path to report them.

Visible damage noted at delivery

If visible damage was noted on your delivery paperwork, call us within 48 hours with photos. We will repair the damage, replace the damaged part, or agree a fair price adjustment with you, at no cost to you.

Problems found later

Some issues only appear after a few days of use. Report hidden problems as soon as you notice them, ideally within 7 days of delivery. For a new cart, we will help you open a warranty claim. For a used cart sold as is, we will review the issue in good faith and tell you honestly what we can do.

What is not covered

  • Damage caused after delivery by accidents, misuse, or weather.
  • Problems caused by modifications or repairs made by someone else.
  • Batteries damaged by improper charging or being left uncharged for long periods.
  • Normal wear and cosmetic marks consistent with a used cart’s age and description.

For charging and care tips, see our golf cart maintenance guide.

Some carts are built or equipped just for you. Our Golf Cart Return Policy handles these orders a little differently, because the work cannot be undone and the cart may not suit another buyer.

Factory orders

If we order a cart from a manufacturer for you, the manufacturer may not accept a return. Under this Golf Cart Return Policy, the non-refundable portion of your deposit for a factory order is agreed with you in advance and written on your order confirmation. If the manufacturer cancels or cannot deliver, you receive a full refund.

Custom builds and upgrades

Lift kits, custom wheels, upgraded seats, sound systems, and similar work done to your specification are treated as custom work. Once installed, those upgrades cannot be returned for a change of mind. The Golf Cart Return Policy still protects you if the work is faulty: tell us, and we will correct it.

Once a low-speed vehicle or street-legal cart has been titled or registered in your name, it is legally a used vehicle and cannot be returned for a change of mind. Titling in Ohio is handled through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Please confirm local rules before you buy, and read our guide to street-legal golf carts in Ohio. This part of our Golf Cart Return Policy exists because title fees and filings cannot be reversed.

Tips to Avoid Problems Before You Buy

The best return is the one you never need. A few simple steps before you commit can save time and money, and they make every part of our Golf Cart Return Policy easier to use if something does come up.

  • Ask questions early: confirm seating, battery type, range, color, and accessories during your order call.
  • Compare options: our guides on gas vs. electric golf carts and 4 vs. 6 passenger golf carts can help you choose the right size and power.
  • Measure your space: check garage door width, storage space, and delivery access.
  • Read the paperwork: review your order confirmation, including any non-refundable deposit amount, before you agree.
  • Keep records: save your receipt, delivery paperwork, and photos from delivery day.

If you follow these steps and still have a concern, our Golf Cart Return Policy and our team are here to help.

Parts and Accessories Returns

Parts and accessories, such as covers, seats, lights, and kits, follow a simpler return process under this Golf Cart Return Policy.

  • Timeframe: return unused items within 30 days of delivery or purchase.
  • Condition: items must be new, uninstalled, and in their original packaging with all pieces.
  • Non-returnable: installed items, special-order or custom items, electrical parts that have been connected, and batteries that have been installed or charged, unless they are defective.
  • Wrong or defective items: if we sent the wrong part or it arrived defective, we will replace it or refund it and cover return shipping.
  • Return shipping: for other returns, you pay return shipping, and a restocking fee of up to 15% may apply to large or freight items. We will tell you before you send anything back.

Call or email us before returning any item so we can give you instructions. Items sent back without contacting us first may be delayed.

Refund Timing and Methods

When a refund is approved under this Golf Cart Return Policy, we process it promptly and keep you informed. Here is what to expect.

Deposit refund after cancellationWithin 5 business days of the written cancellation.
Parts and accessoriesWithin 5 business days after we receive and inspect the returned item.
Price adjustment for delivery damageWithin 5 business days after we agree the adjustment with you.

Refunds are sent to the original payment method through the same third-party payment processor. After we issue a refund, your bank or card issuer usually posts it within 5 to 10 business days, but that timing is outside our control. If you paid by check or another method, we will refund by check or another method we agree on.

Under our Golf Cart Return Policy, taxes are refunded along with the purchase price where applicable. Title, registration, and government fees already paid to an agency may not be refundable, because we cannot recover them once filed.
